In Illinois, you can't even advertise as a public adjuster without a license.
Compliance is key. Illinois Insurance Code, 215 ILCS 5/1515

Plenty of people who'd make great public adjusters get stuck at the licensing exam. Our Illinois public adjuster training is built around it, section by section: property insurance products, insurance terms and concepts, Illinois laws for public adjusters, building techniques and estimating, and policy provisions.
Practice exams, study materials and test-taking strategies matched to the Illinois exam outline, taught by claims professionals who bring real losses they've settled into the room. Class is interactive, so ask anything.
Passing the exam is the big step, not the last one. Once you pass, we walk you through your license application so nothing stands between you and your license.
A public adjuster is a licensed professional who represents the policyholder, never the insurance company. You document the damage, build the estimate and negotiate with the insurer so your client gets everything their policy owes them.
Public adjusters in Illinois usually work for a percentage of the settlement. On a home, Illinois caps that at 10% of what the insurer pays, and your contract has to state the exact figure.
A public adjuster license in Illinois puts you on the policyholder's side of the table. You inspect the damage, document the loss and negotiate the settlement your client is owed, instead of working for the insurance company.
It's the perfect role for people who enjoy helping everyday folks while earning a respectable income. You'll keep your skills sharp with 24 hours of continuing education every two years, including 3 hours of ethics. All it takes is clicking a button to join our Illinois public adjuster classes!
There's no eligibility certificate to request before the Illinois public adjuster exam, and the Illinois Department of Insurance doesn't require a pre-licensing course. Pearson VUE runs the exam at its test centers. Book online or by phone at least 24 hours ahead, and bring two forms of ID with your signature on them.
An Illinois public adjuster license costs $250 for two years, and the exam is $92. You get 100 questions in 165 minutes, and you need a scaled score of 70 to pass. It's a long exam, so pacing matters as much as knowing the material.
You must meet some basic requirements to get your PA License. You need to be at least 18, make Illinois your home state, keep an office here that's open to the public by appointment or regular hours, pass the exam and get fingerprinted. You apply through NIPR with the $250 fee, a $50,000 surety bond or letter of credit, and your contract form. Your license runs two years, and you renew it with 24 hours of continuing education, including 3 hours of ethics.
We know it looks like a lot, especially if you're new to adjusting. Don't worry. We'll help you every step of the way. Join our Illinois public adjuster classes and save your seat.
